Following discussion and consultation towards the end of 2019, the Slalom Committee propose to trial a revised Veterans points system through the 2020 slalom season.
At each Veterans ranking competition two results tables will be created, using the existing points system and the trial points system. The Veterans rankings will show points gained under each system.
In the trial system, current rule 2.10.3.a
“Ranking points are obtained by comparing scores with the corresponding divisional event. Where a Veteran’s score does not correspond exactly with a score in the divisional event, points will be awarded to the next higher place.”
Is modified to
“Ranking points are obtained by comparing scores with the corresponding divisional event and adding uplift points to reflect the higher standards of competition in Div 2, Div 1 and Premier. Where a Veteran’s score does not correspond exactly with a score in the divisional event, points will be awarded to the next lower place. In the case that a Veteran fails to achieve a score higher than any paddler in the corresponding divisional event, zero points will be awarded. The uplift points will be Div 2 +125pts, Div 1 +250pts, Premier +500pts.”
Through the 2020 season the Slalom Committee will review the trial system, amend if necessary and submit a proposal to the 2020 Slalom ACM for implementation in 2021.
The new version of the points has no standing under the rules: they are there as a try-out. It will be the version according to the current rule that counts for this year’s rankings and trophies.
