Matlock Slalom Course

After months without a slalom course Matlock is back up and running as a slalom venue. First 15 gates up with more to follow.

This has been possible thanks to the generous support of The Heights of Abraham's who, after an extensive engineering project, have allowed the club limited access to enable the course to be rebuilt. With this in mind we would ask paddlers to stay off the riverbank - access being from the roadside and egress on river right via the steps at the end of the layby.

Special thanks for the support of materials from Peak UK. We would also like to thank all those who offered their support to rebuild the course, clubs and individuals.

Unfortunately, due to the access and safety issues, we were unable to take up everybody's generous offers. If you value and use the course, however, we would welcome some feedback as this would be a great way to acknowledge all of our supporters.

Today is the first of a number of stages which will result in a course much larger than we have had for years. We are planning on installing further training gates on the lower half of the course and above the course as a warm up and novice training area.

In addition we have a new electric control system for the course lighting which, subject to funding still being available, will power a new LED lights system which will be installed and available to hire for the Autumn.

All we ask is for everyone to respect the shared use of the course, particularly during the current Covid restrictions. Also the time and investment Matlock CC and its supporters put into this site, which all the wider paddling community benefit from.

Please send any feedback on the course to

Special Thanks to all our members who have seen us through what has been a particularly difficult period.
