Slalom Old Boys Sea Kayaking

As I now need to give a chiropractor 3 weeks notice of a tight stagger sequence I have become more involved in sea kayaking. I am aware a few other slalom paddlers are also interested, so between the 21st and 25th April 2022 I intend loosely organising a gathering on Anglesea.

The intention would be to use Anglesea Outdoors as a base and do day trips at locations around the island depending on the prevailing conditions. Tom Carlisle has kindly offered to add his local knowledge.

I intend arriving Thursday evening and there would be opportunities to paddle Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The sea is an environment that many of us are less comfortable with than the WW rivers we race on, so each person needs to be responsible for themselves.

A variety of accommodation is available at the centre and elsewhere, details of the centre are on https://www.angleseyoutdoors.com. I have reserved a dormitory for a group of friends. Some individual rooms are available but logistically and for economy it would be better for people to form ‘pods’ of friends and book a relevant capacity room.

Sea kayaks are available to hire at Summit to Sea https://www.summittosea.co.uk at £30/day but early booking is suggested.

For those choosing to stay elsewhere I would propose we meet at the centre around 9 am each morning to determine what we intend doing. I understand the centre does food at reasonable prices and also has a bar.

Any questions please contact me although at present there’s not much more I can add. Be useful to have an idea of who's interested with contact details so I can create a communications group. PM if interested.

Looking forward to catching up and the more the merrier.

Dave Rawding, Kingston Kayak Club.
