Thanks Bob!
On
a very cold and windy April afternoon at HPP selection, the Welsh Squad
said their thanks in style to a very talented man who had been involved in
coaching them for the last 10 years. Richard Harvey CEO of the WCA and
Richard Lee were there to present Bob with ‘A Lifetime of Service’ Award
amongst other more personal gifts and past and present members of the
Welsh Squad gave a warm reception. Bob Ratcliffe had been coaching for
many years before he took his post with the Welsh, he had always had a
hand in coaching Paul to the highest level and also coached several other
top paddlers including Richard Hounslow and Huw Swetnam along with Helen
Reeves who was Junior World Champion at 15.
Bob
certainly had his travel miles whether it be at Mile End Mill along with
Jimmy Jayes, down at HPP alongside other WC coaches or air miles to
foreign destinations - Bob certainly earned the respect of all and I’m
sure has some very fond memories. Bob started coaching the Welsh team of
Sam Lyons, Dafydd and Tom back when Keith Lyons was team manager and so it
was a particularly sad moment to say goodbye to a coach after so many
years of continuous service.
I’m sure many people would like to wish
Bob a very happy and active retirement, and an extra big vote of thanks
from friends and colleagues in the Welsh squad. We look forward to seeing
you again at HPP when visiting.
Thanks Bob
