Team Races
In team races, teams of three boats work together for the fastest possible time. The team time is taken from the time the first boat starts to the time the third boat finishes – but there’s a 50-second penalty if the third boat doesn’t finish within fifteen seconds of the first.
Team racing means working together, co-ordinating movement to stay close together. Good teams interweave on upstream gates.
At most UK events where there is a team event, it is taken less seriously and chance to have a go and have a lot of fun. You can race with a couple of friends, and usually the organiser can help get you together with other paddler if you don’t have a full team or are there on your own.
